Silver Spring, MD — Pie in the Sky, Series 2, the second installment of the much-loved British detective series, arrives on DVD from Acorn Media on January 26, 2010. Featuring equal amounts police work and culinary adventure, Richard Griffiths (Tony®-winner The History Boys, Equus, Harry Potter films) stars as cop-cum-chef Henry Crabbe with Maggie Steed (Shine on Harvey Moon) as his non-foodie and long-suffering wife. Seen on public television, Pie in the Sky debuted on BBC1 in the U.K. in March 1994 and aired for five series. The 3-volume boxed set includes all ten episodes from Series 2 ($49.99, www.AcornOnline.com).
Semi-retired policeman Henry Crabbe would rather be cooking than catching criminals. Unluckily for him, he happens to be good at both. His boss, Assistant Chief Constable Fisher (Malcolm Sinclair, Casino Royale) doesn’t want to lose him, and his accountant wife, Margaret (Maggie Steed), worries his new career as a restaurateur won’t be financially viable. So, while indulging his culinary passions, Crabbe remains on call for those particularly tricky cases that Fisher sends his way. Larger than life as he is, sometimes there just doesn’t seem to be enough of Crabbe to go around.
Series 2 Episodes: Hard Cheese, Brown Bread, The Policeman’s Daughter, The One That Got Away, Dead Right, Black Pudding, Swan in His Pride, The Mild Bunch, The Mystery of Pikey and Lemon Twist.
