Britain’s most bumbling but beloved detective in five new mysteries;
Available to U.S. audiences for the first time
Debuts on DVD April 8, 2008
Peter Davison returns as the comically competent detective
Who always gets his man, but never any respect
SILVER SPRING, MD; February 12, 2008 —Acorn Media announces the April 8, 2008 DVD debut of The Last Detective, Series 4, starring Peter Davison (Doctor Who, All Creatures Great and Small, At Home with the Braithwaites) in the hit mystery series available to U.S. audiences for the first time. Based on the Dangerous Davies novels by Leslie Thomas, this 2-volume boxed set includes five all-new, full-length mysteries plus an exclusive new interview with Peter Davison.
Davison brings a rumpled charm to his role as Detective Constable “Dangerous” Davies, the everyman detective. Kindly, clumsy, and loyal to a fault, Davies is ultimately competent—in his own galumphing way. Still, he suffers good-naturedly through the indignities heaped upon him by his flashier colleagues and by life in general.
In Series 4, things are looking up for “Dangerous” Davies. Sure, he still gets the least promising cases in the Willesden constabulary. And he still gets little more than mockery from his colleagues. But his wife Julie (Emma Amos) has taken him back—even though she has to share a house with his quirky, freeloading chum, Mod (Sean Hughes, The Commitments).
Series 4 features several first-rate guest stars, including Kenneth Cranham (Rome), The Who’s Roger Daltrey, and Leslie Phillips (Chancer). Each mystery rewards you with the gentle humor and captivating intrigue that you’ve come to expect from North London’s most doggedly unglamorous detective.
EPISODES: Once Upon a Time on the Westway, Dangerous’ Liaisons, A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to Willesden, The Man from Montevideo, Dead Peasant’s Society
The Last Detective series debuted in the U.K. in February 2003 and offers a light-hearted blend of mystery and comedy in the vein of Poirot, Midsomer Murders, and Rosemary & Thyme.
Special Features: Interview with Peter Davison, Leslie Thomas bio and booklist, and cast filmographies.
