Silver Spring, MD; June 9, 2008 — Acorn Media announces the August 5, 2008 home video debut of Foyle’s War, Set 5, starring Michael Kitchen (Out of Africa, GoldenEye) in three all-new feature-length episodes of the hit British series that combines mystery and real history. The DVD release coincides with the debut of the new mysteries on PBS Mystery! in July 2008.

Foyle’s War, Set 1 is Acorn Media’s No. 1 best selling DVD and all four previous sets rank among the top 13 in all-time sales. Set 5 brings the story to 1945, as the war winds down and Foyle and his team prepare for uncertain futures.

Wrapping compelling, character-driven murder mysteries around meticulously depicted history, Foyle’s War has won unqualified critical praise and undying viewer loyalty since its premiere on PBS in February 2003. Michael Kitchen stars as police detective Christopher Foyle who investigates civilian crimes in a small English coastal town during World War II.

The series was created by Anthony Horowitz (Poirot, Midsomer Murders) and written by Horowitz and Michael Chaplin. The series also stars Anthony Howell as DS Paul Milner and Honeysuckle Weeks as Samantha Stewart, and features Nicholas Day, Malcolm Sinclair, Nicholas Woodeson, Duncan Bell, Mark Bazeley, Julian Wadham, Phyllida Law, and Julian Ovenden as Foyle’s son.

The Mysteries (Approx. 100 minutes each):

  • PLAN OF ATTACK—DS Milner’s investigation of a transportation fraud sets in motion a series of events that brings Foyle back to the force.
  • BROKEN SOULS—The murder of an ambitious doctor at the local psychiatric clinic produces no shortage of suspects among the staff and patients, many of whom still experience the war’s horrors.
  • ALL CLEAR—As all of Britain awaits the formal announcement of the war’s end, Foyle reluctantly joins a committee preparing to keep public order during the celebration to come. But the end comes too soon for two men—one a stabbing victim, the other an apparent suicide.
Special Features: Making-of documentary, cast member reflections, notes on a real-life Foyle, and cast filmographies.
