TERRY PRATCHETT’S DISCWORLD COLLECTION

On DVD August 26, 2008

Animated adaptations of beloved sci-fi/fantasy novels Wyrd Sisters & Soul Music; Pratchett ranks second only to J.K. Rowling as the U.K.’s bestselling author

Silver Spring, MD; July 1, 2008 — Acorn Media announces the August 26, 2008 DVD release of Terry Pratchett’s Discworld Collection, animated adaptations of two of Pratchett’s beloved sci-fi/fantasy books. A worldwide phenomenon best-known for his Discworld series, Pratchett ranks second only to J.K. Rowling as the U.K.’s bestselling author and in the top-ten bestselling non-U.S. authors in the United States. Awash in Pratchett’s hilarious parodies and fractured folk motifs, these adaptations of Wyrd Sisters & Soul Music are sure to please audiences of all ages.

THE WORLD IS FLAT! (But ably supported by four elephants floating through space on the back of a giant turtle.) The Discworld, that is, as created by Terry Pratchett in his phenomenally popular sci-fi/fantasy books. Pratchett’s cast of wizards and witches, dwarfs, trolls, and giants hail from familiar myths and legends, but in the Discworld they’re a whole lot funnier. From the award-winning animators at Cosgrove Hall Films, two of Pratchett’s best tales come alive in these animated adaptations produced for British television.

The adaptations feature the voices of Christopher Lee (Lord of the Rings trilogy), Graham Crowden (All Passion Spent), Jane Horrocks (The Amazing Mrs Pritchard, Little Voice), June Whitfield (Absolutely Fabulous), and Annette Crosbie (Edward the King).

Wyrd Sisters - A little bit Shakespeare, a little bit Hollywood, Wyrd Sisters recounts how three hard-working witches get mixed up in a royal mess when they’re handed a murdered king’s baby to protect.

Soul Music - An epic adventure with a soundtrack that really rocks, Soul Music follows the rise of a teenage musician from obscurity to Discworld super-celebrity as a rock star who’s made a deal with Death.

Worldwide sales of Pratchett’s novels now top 50 million copies in 33 languages with U.S. sales increasing six-fold in recent years.

Special Features: Storyboards, interview with Terry Pratchett, Pratchett bio, character bios, and more!
